FG Appoint New Provost's In FCE Obudu And FCE Kastina Respectively

The President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Dr. James Bassey Ejue as the new Provost of Federal College of Education Obudu, Cross River State. The President also appointment Dr. Aliyu Idris Funtua as Provost of Federal College of Education, Katsina, Katsina state. The appointments, according to the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, take effect from August 19. The appointments are for four years subject to renewal for another term. Adamu, who announced the appointments in a statement issued by the ministry’s Deputy Director (Press), Ben Bem-Goong, said the conditions of service, including remunerations and fringe benefits shall be as approved for Provosts in Federal Colleges of Education in Nigeria. Dr. Ejue, 52 holds a Doctorate Degree in Guidance and Counselling from the University of Calabar. Until this appointment, he was the Provost of the Cross River State College of Education,Akamkpa. The Abia State Executive Council has approved #10,000 reduction of the Abia State University (ABSU) school fees for Abia indigenes in ABSU. Also approved is the immediate relocation of the Faculties of Law and Humanities to Umuahia while Faculty of Engineering is to be relocated to Aba. The Commissioner for Information, Culture and Strategy, Comrade Bonnie Iwuoha disclosed these while addressing journalists after this week’s EXCO meeting. The Commissioner informed that the reduction in school fees was to encourage poor and needy Abia indigenes to go to school,adding that each student from Abia would prove his identity by presentation of tax receipts of their parents or guidance and biometrically. Covenant University, African Private University of the Year, has received another feather of glory with Abiola Samuel Oluwaseyi, a graduate of the university, emerging the Best Engineering Graduate of the Year in the 2016 COREN (Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria) Assembly competition featuring graduates of engineering programmes from all Nigerian universities. Abiola, who only in June 2016 graduated from the Civil Engineering Department of Covenant University with a 4.90 CGPA, was declared the best among competitors from private universities at the competition held from August 8-10, 2016. JAMB Boss Promise Smooth 2016 Admission Process

The Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB),Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, has assured that the 2016 admissions into the country's tertiary institutions will be smooth and that no candidate must emanate from any other source outside the list prepared and recommended by the institution. This is contained in a statement issued by JAMB on Tuesday. Oloyede spoke at the opening of the first technical committee meeting on the 2016 admissions to first choice institutions, which opened at the Bayero University, Kano, on Monday. The Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities (SSANU) has accused Pro-Chancellors and Vice Chancellors of Nigerian universities of corruption and running the nation’s ivory tower aground through fraudulent activities, diversion of funds and awarding shady contracts. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) on Friday said it has concluded arrangements to hold its next technical meeting on admissions at the Bayero University Kano. The board’s Head, Media and Information, Fabian Benjamin, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that it would hold from Aug. 22 to Aug. 26. The Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Ogun State, and the adjoining communities slipped into chaos on Thursday as a peaceful protest by students of the institution turned violent. A source told myschoolcribe that at least five persons – two students and three policemen – were injured when a detachment of police personnel deployed to the institution to restore normalcy clashed with the students. For over five hours, police fired tear gas repeatedly in the bid to disperse the rampaging students who took to Alabata Road and Abeokuta – Ibadan Road during the fracas. The students helped by people suspected to be street urchins set four vehicles ablaze and destroyed properties. The Federal Government has approved the release of admission list of successful candidates into the Federal Unity Colleges (FUCs) for the 2016/2017 academic session. Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, said this in a statement issued by the ministry’s Deputy Director (Press), Ben Bem- Goong, on Thursday in Abuja. FUNAAB VC And Bursar Officer Arrested By EFCC Over Corruption

The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Agriculture,(FUNAAB), Abeokuta, Prof Olusola Oyewole, alongside the Institution Bursar, Moses Ilesanmi were invited for questioning based on allegations of corruption levelled against them. The allegation is based on unbriddled corruption and betrayal of public trust. “The university officials were told to come along with certified true copies of documents including those of capital projects executed in their tenure.” While Mr. Oyewole, a Professor of Food Science and Technology, was appointed in 2012, Mr.Ilesanmi was appointed in September 2011 and is scheduled to leave office in a month. The EFCC is also investigating payments made by the university to the governing council of the institution led by a former senator, Adeseye Ogunlewe. The invited officials were asked to come with records of all payments made to Mr. Ogunlewe and other members of the governing council since their appointment in 2013. Mr. Ogunlewe, who represent
