FUNNAB Student's Protest Five People Confirm Dead
The Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Ogun State,
and the adjoining communities slipped into chaos on Thursday as a peaceful protest by students of the institution turned violent.
A source told myschoolcribe that at least five persons – two students and three policemen – were injured when a detachment of police personnel deployed to the institution
to restore normalcy clashed with the students.
For over five hours, police fired tear gas repeatedly in the bid to disperse the rampaging students who took to Alabata Road and Abeokuta – Ibadan Road during the fracas.
The students helped by people suspected to be street urchins set four vehicles ablaze and
destroyed properties.
The church founded by the institution Vice –Chancellor, Prof. Olusola Oyewole, which is
located few metres away from the Ogun State police command headquarters, was not spared
by the rampaging students.
They destroyed the church windows and doors.
The Acting Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed the
incident, said nobody was killed in the fracas.
He said some policemen were injured in the incident.
